Devices supported by the app

The ABN AMRO app doesn’t usually work on beta versions of iOS and Android. Neither does it work on new Huawei devices or devices without Google services (such as Google Play) or devices with the AppGallery app (Huawei Media Services).

It also doesn't work on Apple, MacBooks, iMacs and Mac minis. Please use Internet Banking if you’d like to do your banking on your Mac.

Only download the ABN AMRO app from official app stores

More and more often, apps are available from app stores other than Google Play and the iOS App Store. The official version of the ABN AMRO app is only available from these two app stores. We advise you to always exercise great caution when downloading apps from alternative stores. The security checks in many of these stores are less stringent, which increases the risk of security issues.

Buying a different device

The app only works on recent versions of iOS and Android. Please bear this in mind if you are planning on buying a new or second-hand device. This will ensure you can use the ABN AMRO app for a longer period of time on your device. If you want to carry on using the ABN AMRO app on your device for several years, we recommend that you opt for a device that supports iOS 17 or Android 13 or above.

Why you need the correct version of iOS or Android

It's crucial for your device to be secure and stay that way, which is why Apple and Android release security updates several times a year. These updates are automatically installed to protect your device when you update your Apple iOS or Android version.

Devices that no longer receive security updates are not properly protected. Apple, Google (Android) and manufacturers decide when a certain device will stop receiving security updates. If they decide that your device can no longer be updated to the new version, this means you no longer receive security updates. ABN AMRO is of the opinion that you cannot use our app securely on a device that no longer receives this protection.

At the top of the page, you can see which Apple iOS and Android version you need to use the ABN AMRO app.

Check your version of iOS or Android and try to upgrade to a later version. Read on to find out how to do this. If you can do it, you will be able to continue using the app.

If your device is too old to run the app, you can do your banking using Internet Banking. Simply log in from any of our webpages, including on your tablet or mobile phone. Scroll all the way up and click the yellow log-in button in the top right-hand corner.

How long your device gets updates varies per manufacturer. If you are buying a new device, make sure you check which operating system it comes with. If you want to use the device with the ABN AMRO app for an extended period of time, choose a device with the latest operating system.
Unfortunately, the ABN AMRO app does not work on Huawei devices launched in 2020 or later. Google has blocked access to its Play Store for these devices, which means you can’t download, install or use the ABN AMRO app. Neither can you do so through Huawei’s AppGallery app store. Please bear this in mind when buying a new device.

How to update iOS or Android

iPhone or iPad (iOS)

  • Go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap ‘General’.
  • Tap ‘Software Update’. Here you can see which iOS version your device is running. If an update is available, you will find it here. 
  • Tap ‘Install Now’ to install the update and follow the instructions.

Mobile phones or tablets using Android

  • Go to ‘Settings’ on your mobile phone or tablet.
  • Tap ‘About phone/tablet’, followed by ‘Device info’.
  • Tap ‘System’, followed by ‘System updates’. Here you can see which version of Android your device is running. If an update is available, you will find it here. 
  • Tap ‘Install’ to install the update and follow the instructions.
