When you open an account with a non-Dutch passport or ID, we need to verify that you live in the Netherlands. We therefore need your proof of residence in the Netherlands. On this page you can read how to obtain your proof of residence and how to share it with us.
To become an ABN AMRO client, you must live or plan to live in the Netherlands for at least 4 months. You also need to be registered with a municipality. To verify this, we need your proof of residence. We are required by law to check that you have this, and to always make sure that we have your correct personal data. These rules help us prevent financial crime.
Without your proof of residence, your account is not yet available for use. Once your proof of residence is approved, you can start using your account. You can then also take out new products. You have 120 days to provide your proof of residence from the moment we accepted you as a client. If we do not have it by that time, our relationship with you as a client will unfortunately end.
We accept several documents as proof of residence:
If you are going to live in the Netherlands for more than 4 months, you need to register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (in Dutch: Basisregistratie Personen or BRP). You can do this at the municipality or the expat centre, free of charge. After your registration, you will receive a proof of registration. Please upload this.
Please note: the proof of registration may not be more than 6 months old.
An extract from the Non-residents Records Database (in Dutch: Registratie Niet-ingezetenen or RNI) will not be accepted. Go to the website of the Dutch Government (in Dutch: Rijksoverheid) for more information about registering in the BRP.
It may take some time before you receive your proof of registration in the BRP. Therefore, you may also provide the following documents:
You will receive this letter from the IND if your application for a residence permit has been approved.
Have you been admitted to study in the Netherlands? The proof of enrolment can also be uploaded as proof. Make sure the proof contains a stamp and signature.
Please note: the documents mentioned above take longer to process. Want to use your account as soon as possible? Then please upload your proof of registration in the BRP, or the Relocator / HR declaration form.
Are you coming to the Netherlands as an expat with the help of a relocator or the HR department of your employer? If so, you may be given a special declaration form prepared by ABN AMRO by your relocator or HR department. Please upload this form in the quarter in which it's valid.
You need to upload the proof of your residence to the bank. Do this within 120 days after you've opened the account.
