ABN AMRO Legal expenses insurance

A new washing machine that turns out to be faulty. A streaming service that doesn’t work properly. Nuisance from neighbours. A municipality that refuses a building permit. Problems like these aren’t always easy to solve and sometimes result in a dispute. With our Consumer and Housing module, you’ll be entitled to legal help and advice from our legal assistance partner ARAG.

 

What sorts of things are covered?

Consumer

You and your family are guaranteed legal help and advice within the European Union, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland in the event of disputes such as:

  • A dispute relating to the purchase/supply of products and services, including if you bought the product or service online.
  • A dispute with a company regarding the guarantee and repairs of products or services they supplied.
  • A dispute with someone who has injured you or damaged your property.


Housing

You and your family are guaranteed legal help and advice within the European Union, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland in the event of a disagreement:

  • With your neighbours about noise or erecting a fence.
  • With a government body about your home, concerning a building permit or changes to a zoning plan.
  • About the purchase, rental, building or renovation of a home or holiday home in the Netherlands.

What is not covered?

Disputes involving sums under €150 are not covered. In addition, the insurance does not cover disputes relating to the rental of homes or holiday homes. This does not apply if you rent out a room in your own home with a rental agreement of at least 1 year.

Maximum cover

  • All expenses for the legal specialists employed by ARAG are covered.
  • The maximum compensation for external costs (fees paid to a legal specialist or expert who doesn’t work for ARAG) is €50,000.
  • If you choose to engage your own lawyer or solicitor who doesn’t work for ARAG for proceedings that do not legally require a lawyer or solicitor, the maximum compensation for this lawyer or solicitor is €6,000.
