ABN AMRO Legal expenses insurance

Whether you travel by bike, car, boat or on foot, there’s always a chance that you’ll have an accident. If this results in a dispute, the Traffic module provides worldwide cover for all road users and vehicle owners. You’re entitled to legal help and advice from experts from ARAG, even if you caused the damage or accident yourself.

 

What sorts of things are covered?

You can use this module as a road user or vehicle owner wherever you are in the world. It includes damage or accidents you cause when walking, cycling, driving or sailing. Your family members are covered too. The cover includes legal help and advice for disputes in traffic situations, such as:

  • Damage or injury accidentally caused by a third party on the road.
  • Your driving licence is confiscated by a government body, or a government body impounds your vehicle.
  • You are prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter or actual bodily harm as the result of a road traffic accident.

What is not covered?

Your driving licence is confiscated by a government body, or a government body impounds your vehicle in a criminal case.

If you face criminal prosecution, ARAG will pay the costs of legal assistance in retrospect if the insured party is acquitted or if the case is dropped. In such cases, the insured party must inform ARAG about the irrevocable judgment within one month.

Maximum cover

Traffic module
  • The maximum compensation for external costs for traffic claims in the European Union, Switzerland and Norway is €50,000. The maximum compensation outside these areas is €10,000.
General
  • All expenses for the legal specialists employed by ARAG are covered.
  • The maximum compensation for external costs (fees paid to a legal specialist or expert who doesn’t work for ARAG) is €50,000.
  • If you choose to engage your own lawyer or solicitor who doesn’t work for ARAG for proceedings that do not legally require a lawyer or solicitor, the maximum compensation for this lawyer or solicitor is €6,000.
